How to hire a high-ticket closer in the UK
Hiring your first high-ticket closer is mostly a readiness problem, not a sourcing problem. This guide covers the sequence that works: prove the offer, define the numbers, write the role honestly, assess on real calls, then contract properly.

1. Check you're actually ready to hire
A closer scales a result that already exists. If you have never personally closed the offer, or your conversion rate swings wildly month to month, a closer will not fix that — they will simply burn leads while you work out the pitch.
Before you hire, you want a proven offer, evidence of at least a handful of closed deals, and a lead source you can keep supplied.
- Average order value above roughly £3,000
- A repeatable lead source producing booked calls
- A known close rate you can quote honestly
- Cash flow to pay commission promptly after collection
2. Decide the structure before you advertise
Commission-only, base plus commission, or retainer plus commission are all normal in UK high-ticket sales. Commission-only attracts strong closers only when lead flow is warm and volume is real. If you cannot supply appointments, expect to pay a base or accept a smaller pool.
Write down commission percentage, payment trigger (usually cash collected, not contract signed), payment timing and any clawback for refunds. Ambiguity here causes almost every closer dispute.
3. Write the role like a candidate reads it
The strongest closers scan for four things: what you sell, ticket size, lead flow, and realistic monthly earnings. A listing without those gets ignored by good candidates and flooded by weak ones.
Publish real numbers. Inflated OTEs cost you the first two weeks of every hire and your reputation in a small market.
4. Assess on evidence, not interview polish
Closers interview well by definition. Ask for specific numbers — deals closed, average ticket, cash collected, close rate — then test them: a recorded objection-handling roleplay against your actual offer tells you more than a CV.
On PrimeClosers, profiles carry AI assessment scores, DISC profiling, verification and, where the closer has been paid through the platform, a Verified Earnings record you can check rather than take on trust.
5. Contract and onboard
Issue a written placement agreement covering commission, payment terms, lead ownership, confidentiality and notice. Then run a real onboarding: offer deep-dive, shadowed calls in week one, recorded-call review in week two, full pipeline from week three.
Self-serve hires made through PrimeClosers include a 30-day replacement guarantee, so a mishire in the first month is recoverable.
Questions people ask
- How long does it take to hire a closer?
- Most UK employers shortlist within a week of posting and have someone selling within two to four weeks, depending on how quickly you can run trial calls.
- Should I hire a setter or a closer first?
- If you already have more booked calls than you can take, hire a closer. If you have capacity but not enough conversations, hire an appointment setter first.
- What's a fair commission rate?
- 10-15% of cash collected is the common UK range for high-ticket, higher where the closer self-generates and lower where you supply strong inbound.
