Role guide

The appointment setter role,defined.

What appointment setters actually do, what they are paid in the UK, how the role differs from an SDR, and the two routes into it — whether you want to hire one or become one.

What an appointment setter does

An appointment setter sits between marketing and closing. Leads arrive from ads, content or outbound lists; the setter qualifies them and books the ones worth a closer's time. They do not present pricing or handle objections about the offer — their single measurable output is the shown, qualified appointment.

  • Work inbound leads from paid ads, organic content and lead magnets within minutes of opt-in
  • Qualify against a defined framework — problem, budget, decision authority, timeline
  • Book qualified prospects directly onto the closer's calendar
  • Run reminder and confirmation sequences to protect the show rate
  • Log every conversation and outcome in the CRM so pipeline data stays clean
  • Re-engage no-shows and aged leads in the database

Appointment setter FAQ

An appointment setter contacts and qualifies leads — through DMs, email, SMS or outbound calls — and books the qualified ones onto a closer's calendar. They do not sell the offer. Their job is to confirm the lead has the problem, the budget and the availability, then get the meeting booked and shown.

Most UK setters are paid £3-£15 per shown, qualified appointment, often with a bonus of 1-3% when the call closes. A consistent setter booking 40-80 shown calls a month typically earns £2,000-£6,000. Salaried setter roles usually pay £22,000-£28,000 base with an appointment-based bonus.

The function is the same; the context differs. SDR roles are usually salaried, B2B, outbound-heavy and sit inside a structured sales org. Appointment setting roles are usually commission-based, attached to a single high-ticket offer, and work warm inbound leads from paid ads or social content.

Less than for closing, which is why it is the standard entry point into high-ticket sales. What you do need is evidence: booked-call counts, conversation screenshots, CRM stats or a recorded qualification call. Candidates who bring numbers get placed several times faster than those who bring a certificate.

Hiring direct through the PrimeClosers network is free to post and £249 flat when you hire. If you would rather not manage the function at all, our outsourced appointment setting service is priced from £25 per shown inbound appointment or £120 per shown outbound appointment.

As a destination, it is limited — the ceiling is around £6,000 a month. As a route, it is the most reliable entry into high-ticket closing, where the ceiling is several times higher. Most placed closers in the network set appointments first.
